Heavy D passed away yesterday at age 44. Heavy D returned from a trip to the mall, climbed a flight of stairs and was unable to catch his breath, and collapsed in his condo’s hallway according to a tenant in his building. 911 was called and Heavy D who never loss consciousness was rushed to a nearby L.A. hospital, where he passed away shortly after his arrival. Heavy D recently returned from an over seas trip where he acquired pneumonia. The cause of death is unknown pending an autopsy, however there is no indication of foul play.
Heavy D was the front man of the group Heavy D and the Boyz which consisted of Trouble T Roy, G Whiz and Eddie F. Heavy changed the stereotype and image of a larger size man. The overweight lover is what he called himself, he showed the world that being heavy doesn’t call for losing your sexiness….you can be both.
The first time I saw him was on a dance show Dancing on Air I believe was taped in Philly and he performed “Mr. Big Stuff.” To watch him dance and his style was almost unbelievable had me questioning is he really doing that move. That was the first time I seen a larger size man dancing and kickin it too. I was amazed to see him on the Bet Awards show doing some of those same dance moves and he was on point. He had a voice that was very distinctive and I love the way he rolled his tongue. Heavy D and the Boyz had some great hits my favorite is ” Now that we found love” and “Nuttin but love” The group was able to cross over without losing their street cred.
So many people took to twitter after hearing that he passed away to recollect and offer condolences, and you just kept hearing the same thing how he had such a beautiful personality and how he always was smiling, but one tweet stood out for me……LL COOl J tweeted “May GOD embrace the soul of Heavy D and Bless his family. I respected you Heavy and I always will.”
Heavy D gone too soon, but never will you be forgotten. May your soul rest in peace and may God comfort your family, friends, and fans.
