Police say 20-year-old Frank Briggs, of Shedaker Street near Baynton in East Germantown, pulled up in a car and opened fire on a crowd gathered outside rap artist French Montana’s tour bus late Thursday night, after the bus stopped near a Holiday Inn Express on Columbus Boulevard.
Fatally wounded in the drive-by shooting was Jowann King, 26, of New York. A second man, age 28, was also wounded in the shooting, but survived.
Briggs is charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, weapons offenses and related charges, police said.
Police have not said what motivated the shooting, but trouble has a way of finding Montana, whose real name is Karim Kharbouch.
He boasted to an entertainment website that he once survived a gunshot to the head and that he had beaten the murder rap that was pinned on him after the man who shot him was killed.
Just last month a fan left one of his shows in Las Vegas and allegedly shot and killed aspiring rapper Wayne Cherry Jr. as each drove along the strip.
Mjj says, It’s sad another young black man lost to the world of violence and the penal institution.
With Jay-Z’s Made in America festival, Meek Mill’s Dreams & Nightmares, as well as Roc-A-Fella Reunion Tour 2012, it seems Philadelphia had an exceptional 2012.
The days when State Property and Eve rang across everyone’s radio were all but a memory of our past favorite Philly MCs, though the creativity and rhymes have still been spit regardless of the nation’s attention. With the help of Phillys 107.9 spinner, DJ Damage, Ballerstatus.com set out to find out who’s worth our ears to listen to, and who is up next in the City of Brotherly Love.

PhillyrapperMeek Mill clapped back at Cassidy, with the we will bury you diss “Repo” Meek on top of his game has finally released a diss in response to Cassidy’s thirsty hungry anthems. They’ve been beefing on twitter for some weeks and two diss records from Cassidy made the beast come out of Meek.
Two Philly lyricist both good at what they do want the title of being the best that hailed from the City of Brotherly Love. Shots have been fired from both sides now lets wait and see when the gun smoke clears who’s the last man standing.
Check Out Meek’s Diss below followed by Cassidy and you be the judge.
Philly rappers Meek Mill and Cassidy beefing on twitter over what started out as a friendly competitive freestyle battle for bragging rights. Meek and Cassidy are known for Philly street battles both are extremely talented but, one would clearly would be King of Philly if the battle was to actually go down.
First it was Meek drum rolling it via video, then Cassidy swooped right in like an Eagle who’s been circling his prey, stepping up to the challenge, to Meek throwing out a figure that he knew Cassidy probably aint got it to spare, even though some say it’s a sure bet that he could take home easily…….moving forward to it turning ugly for the twitter streets…
And then Meek Hurls the insults, which I must say he does very well on Twitter
The famed rapper Meek Mill born and raised in Philly was detained before his album release party, a real Dreams and Nightmare situation. Apparently Meek was caught up in a live stop in Philly and detained long enough to miss his album release Party.
Talking ish about Philly’s DA, probably didn’t make things any better over here in his hometown, referencing the assistant district attorney Noel Ann DeSantis on his track “The Ride.” Meek was told to “tread lightly” in court by DeSantis for these lyrics: “The D.A. said she hate me but I don’t understand/When I just rocked a show in front of 50,000 fans/I think that bitch racist, she probably in a clan.”….
There isn’t really freedom of speech these days….words can cause nightmares. The MMG rapper found out first hand that these n*ggas can hold him back, and hit his pockets too. He just dropped his album the same week as Sandy, and Now he has the boys in blue on his trail…all because he’s famous, so he said in a number of tweets….
“I ain’t get locked up…definitely not in NYC with no gun!” he wrote. “Cops just harassed and violated me last night in Philly just for being famous!”
“cops cost me a lot of money tonight …..taking pics of me like I’ma fuckin joke….no charges just holding.”
“The crazy part about it is I really had a handcuff and Rolex on my wrist yesterday…. Really #DreamsAndNightmares”
On the bright side his album projections are looking damn good despite Hurricane Sandy and all the fury she unleashed, his album might push 200k in it’s first week.
Philadelphia Police OfficerLt. Jonathan Josey has been placed on a 30 day suspension with the intent to dismiss, actions taken by Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
The incident occurred at 5th and Lehigh during the Puerto Rican parade after party over the weekend. Aida Guzman sustained a swift punch to the face by Lt. Josey, reason(s) unknown. The video was placed on YouTube and went viral causing an uproar in Philly.
The Philadelphia Police Commissioner could have waited for the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation, he could have waited for all the witnesses to be questioned, but instead he has decided to take a Commissioner’s Direct Action against Lt. Jonathan Josey.
Less than 24 hours since Commissioner Charles Ramsey returned from a police chief’s conference in San Diego and gave his initial thoughts on the viral YouTube video, he released a message stating Josey will be suspended for 30 days beginning Thursday with the intent to dismiss.
During his press conference Tuesday, Ramsey described the incident on the YouTube video as very troubling and, from what he saw in the video, the use of force applied was in excess of what was needed.
He said he knows Lt. Josey, has respect for his accomplishments in the department, and he personally likes him, but that would not impact his decision.
On Wednesday night, John McNesby, the president of the Fraternal Order of Police gave his reaction to the latest developments.
“I think it stinks, it stinks. It sends a bad message to the police out there on the streets,” McNesby said.
He says the ink hasn’t even dried on the investigation.
McNesby says its sill unclear what happened in the moments before the infamous punch was thrown.
Mjj says ….Police brutality occurs too often, sad to say. Although there are many good police officers, there’s always rotten apples at the core…..when exposed it ruins it for all. Tension is high in my city of Brotherly Love, we need the calm after the storm….Lt. Josey Fired

On April 8, Audrey Ann Parker gave life to a star, who would bless each and every mic, speak the truth, and share his love for hip hop.
Kenyatta Parker, even as a child, was destined for greatness. With his sister, Clairessa L. Walker’s love and support, Kenyatta was challenged to rap about things she would point out just to keep his freestyle and rap thirst alive.
Raised on the streets of North Philadelphia, he received his first taste of stardom as a rising hip hop artist when he performed with Charniece Bailey in the Power 99 FM’s “Stay in School” Campaign. This campaign gave aspiring rap artist the opportunity to spread the message about staying in school and saying no to drugs. After winning this competition, Charneice and Kenyatta had the pleasure of meeting the group Total and since we represented Strawberry High School, Total performed at our school. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as a Sergeant. While stationed in Okinawa, Japan in 2002, he connected with Mark Thompson who ignited his thirst for music and recorded, “illadlep” and “False Prophet”. It was at this time, he adopted the stage name “illadelp” because he viewed his self as one of the illest artist who represented Philadelphia, so by combining the two , the world was slowly introduced to illadelp. However, when he returned back to the states, his dream of being the music industry slowly died, but the fire to record and write remained. Just when he was done dreaming about getting his music heard, In 2011, he reconnected with a former Strawberry Mansion classmate, Charron Monaye, who took an interest in his music and pushed his dreams forward. Since then, he has recorded countless of music, performed at the Martini Lounge in San Diego for a show called “The Breaks”, auditioned for the television show “The Voice”, and featured at “The Arts Garage”, “The Shed”, “Coast 2 Coast Industry Mixer”, and “IStandard Producer Showcase”. He has recorded with ML The Truth of 100 Drums Production, LLC out of Jackson Ms., Zaq and Mike with Mike and Ike Studios. On February 1, 2011, he received his first placement under the direction of DJ Truuf as his song, I’m Ready featuring ML The Truth was selected to be on the Converse Allstar Mixtape Vol 2, which has been circulating across the globe.
Even though, he is not signed to a major company, he continues to fight against the odds and live out a dream that others deem impossible. His songs, Up In the Club and Ride With Me are hits and are full rotation on SwuvRadio and Mix1620, both hosted by DJ Truuf. As he continues to establish a fan base and brand, this aspiring artist is gearing up for a promising career. With a great team, supportive uncle, and four girls, Unique Parker, Cherish Parker, Kylese Parker and Jordan Parker, there is much more to come. Look out for his mixtape coming early Summer 2012 and other great opportunities.
